Hi there, as you just heard in the intro, I’m Andrew Jennings, the host of The HR Risk Podcast. Before we jump into guest conversations, I wanted to use this short episode to introduce myself and the goals behind the podcast.
Recently I took a professional plunge. I left my corporate law practice and started a company called Ekdesk. Ekdesk uses software and data to help organizations get better at preventing workplace harassment and identifying internal talent. The goal for Ekdesk is to reduce HR risk, whether that’s the risk of being sued, of losing valuable employees, of facing a damaged reputation, whether that’s with the public or with customers, or even just off not being as productive and as possible.
Now, I love podcasts, so I naturally started looking for a podcast to help me learn more about my new field—HR risk—and I didn’t really find much out there. So that why’s you’re listening to this intro today: I decided to start a podcast about HR risk, and I named it, you guessed it, The HR Risk Podcast.
Each episode of this podcast features conversation with an expert about a specific area of HR risk and best practices for mitigating it. Our guests will come from diverse backgrounds, including HR and other professionals, consultants, professors and researchers, entrepreneurs, service providers, and everybody in between. These conversations will usually come in around half an hour and will come out each week or every other week, so it’s perfect for a morning commute if you’re an HR professional, you’re an employment lawyer, you’re in the risk industry, or you’re just interested in HR risk.
But you don’t have to take my word for it. I’ve just posted the podcast’s first two episodes to give you a flavor of the conversations you’ll be able to hear on The HR Risk Podcast. In our first episode, we talk to Rick Betterley about employment litigation trends in 2019, and in the second episode, we talk to Dr. Laura McGuire about managing challenging corporate relocations.
